Sencell

The Sencell sensor technology provides real-time and accurate glucose readings straight to a smart device. By reading the osmotic pressure, Sencell is able to measure the glucose levels in the blood. Sencell is developing according to our targets and we plan additional pre-clinical trials in 2022.

Sencell incorporates a 3D printed nano-sensor and is implanted under a person’s skin. Sencell continuously measures the osmotic pressure in the inner sensor chamber which is directly correlated to a person’s glucose levels. Sencell lasts a minimum of six months and measures a person’s glucose levels in real time. The data are transferred wirelessly to a smart device (smart phone or smart watch), allowing the user to control their glucose levels.

The Sencell glucose monitoring system includes an osmotic pressure sensor (sensor core), transmitter (sensor electronics) and a mobile medical application (reader) to continuously measure glucose in the interstitial fluid.

Inject and forget

No regular pricking or unpractical transmitters. The Sencell sensor is injected under the skin on the wrist and operates independently.

Convenient and simple in use

Sencell requires very little operating energy to transfer real time glucose data wirelessly from the sensor to your smart device. The sensor is self-sustained with energy and reads glucose data continuously.

Maintain control

The wireless, real time data transfer, with alarm functions, help to maintain glucose levels within threshold, and continuously warn of high and low glucose levels.

Sencell is developed to be the size of a grain of rice, allowing the device to be integrated in a needle sensor.

Small size
The Sencell sensor has been developed to a point that allows the sensing element to be put into a hypodermic needle. This represents proof of the concept and pave the way for studies in humans with an injected device. The Sencell dimensions are targeted to be 2*3*6 mm3. This world-leading technology is injected under the skin by a pre-filled (or “pre-loaded”) syringe-like device.

Wireless data transfer
Access glucose data on a smart device. No unpractical transmitters is needed.

Long life-cycle
The Sencell sensor provides additional comfort with its minimum 6 months long life span.

No surgery
There is no need for surgery when applying the sensor. It can be injected almost without pain.

Benefits

Today people with diabetes are dependent on painful and time-consuming glucose measurement procedures based on old technology. Sencell is a revolutionary device for people with diabetes, providing functions far beyond what present day products and technology do.

Approximately 463 million adults (20-79 years) were living with diabetes in 2019, a number which is predicted to rise to 700 million by 2045 (International Diabetes Federation).

Annually about 5 million people die due to poorly managed glucose levels. Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to serious health complications such as heart disease, stroke, blindness, amputation, nephropathy and cardiac failure to name a few.

Diabetes is a big risk factor and people with diabetes are more likely to have more severe symptoms and complications when infected with any virus. Diabetes has been considered among the most severe risk factors for a severe course of Covid-19. Research even indicates that one in five Covid-19 patients with diabetes dies within 28 days of hospital admission (Nursingtimes.net). To lower the risk during other infections, controlling blood sugar levels is highly critical.
